Parent considering whether a Dependent Care FSA can be used to pay for a child's summer camp

Q: Can my Dependent Care FSA really be used to pay for summer camp?

A: Yes, in many cases. If the camp allows you (and your spouse, if married) to work or look for work, the cost of a day camp for a qualifying child under age 13 is generally an eligible Dependent Care FSA expense. This is the case even if the camp specializes in a specific activity. The cost of overnight camps is not eligible for reimbursement, even if the primary purpose is childcare.
