BAS Cares Volunteers Help Harvest Fresh Produce for Local Families

The BAS Cares Team recently spent a rewarding Saturday morning volunteering at Martha’s Community Farm, helping grow and harvest fresh produce for individuals and families experiencing food insecurity throughout Montgomery County.

Located less than 10 minutes from BAS, Martha’s Community Farm supplies fresh fruits and vegetables to local food pantries, including Martha’s Choice Marketplace in Norristown. During the volunteer event, BAS employees learned about the farm’s mission, sustainable growing practices, and the important role fresh produce plays in supporting community health.

Our volunteers contributed more than 18 hours of service and accomplished an impressive amount of work, harvesting:

• More than 200 pounds of potatoes
• 80 pounds of eggplant
• 4 pounds of beans

These fresh vegetables will be distributed to local food pantries, helping provide nutritious meals to families in need.

The experience left a lasting impression on many members of the team.

Following the volunteer event, the team gathered for lunch to reflect on what they had learned and the meaningful impact of giving back together.

Martha’s Community Farm expressed its appreciation to BAS, noting that our team’s efforts expanded the farm’s ability to grow fresh produce for families throughout Montgomery County. The organization also shared that BAS volunteers are helping make a lasting difference as the crops continue to grow and stock local food pantries.
